touch pad works | There is a clock problem from the motherboard, there are ways around fixing this and there is extensive documentation on forums around.(9.3)- Clock problem solved with 10.0. Ndiswrapper 1.27 works on 10.1 only with the netbc564.inf (driver from Ubuntu forums) NOT the bcmwl5.inf file. The ATI 64bit drivers for the 200M cards seem to not work so far for 3d (9.3 or 10.0 or 10.1)

Touchpad & Trackpoint ok, modem?, irda?, SD? | ATI Binary Driver (> 25.18) is required for OpenGL hardware acceleration, Suspend to Disk, DualHead or Xinerama. An annoying high-pitched noise produced by faulty electronics can be eliminated by adding "options processor max_cstate=2" to /etc/modprobe.conf (affects a whole series of intel chipsets with integrated bluetooth). Touchpad (including horizontal scrolling), Bluetooth and Wireless worked out of the box (maybe after Yast-Update). Installing 10.0 failed due to common ACPI problems (known and fixed in 10.1 AFAIK).

Touchpad works, but for some reason neither YAST nor KDE is able to disable it even when you tell them to (I hate touchpads). Fortunately I was able to tape some cardboard over it to effectively disable it. Of course, if you like touchpads, then there's no problem. | Important: If you're doing the 64-bit installtion you must add the boot option "noapic" or the video won't work (use F3 at the install prompt). 32-bit doesn't seem to need the extra boot option. Other than that, the install went perfectly. If you want the wireless to work, I'd recommend the Linksys WPC55AG wireless card since that worked for me, but if want a different card, make sure that you check compatability before you buy one (http://linux-wless.passys.nl/ is a good site), particularly if you're running in 64-bit mode. You're pretty much going to want a card that works with the kernel since it's difficult to get 64-bit Windows drivers for ndiswrapper to use.

Big improvement over 10.1! Installation was a piece of cake and MUCH faster. This system was purchased new in October 2006. has had 10.1 on it as well. Has dual 100 gb SATA hard drives. nVidia GeForce Go 7600, and Centrino Duo ICH7 audio, etc. Will report more as finish tweaks and updates. Just installed 10.2 on this system on 2007-01-04. Audio workds but not able to control between headphones and speakers, will likely have to do as in 10.1 from the following (link coming soon):... Wireless works initially under Network Manager, but starts to become "flaky" under load when using WEP. Need to use updated ipw3945 and ieee80211 (http://ipw3945.sourceforge.net/#downloads). May have to disable NM and only run under ifup/down (testing still). WEP still doesn't work reliably under 10.1 or 10.2 with Network Manager nor with ifup/down until update ipw & ieee. Video 3d - have to download nVidia drivers for 3d from http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html - DO NOT enable Xgl before installing the nVidia driver, system will be so slow as to be unusable. DVD-DL-Lightscribe (report coming soon). TV-Tuner card (report coming soon). Built-in webcam (report coming). Hotkeys & Fn Keys (works! when hotkeys in sysconfig enabled). IR Remote (report coming). Modem (report coming). Memcard slot (report coming). HDMI (report coming). Expansion slot (n/a yet). Touchpad vertical scroll works, no horizontal scroll (yet). Microphone (report coming).

Broadcom wireless card works, but only with ndiswrapper.
This laptop (as many other HP laptops in this page) suffers from "bad state" problem. Laptop goes into "bad state" whenever it is shutdown or rebooted from SUSE. Possible indicators of the problem are: CPU not reaching maximum frequency (speedstepping does not work), battery indicator is not updated when running under battery power, long delay (20s) when booting. This problem survives reboot. One workarround is to remove power and battery, and wait for up to 20 seconds. The solution is to use kernel from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/trenn/hp_fixes_final/ or to recompile kernel (configure psmouse as module, unload the driver before system shutdown or reboot). This bug is appearantly fixed in the latest kernel, and might get into openSUSE 10.3. It is also important to use the latest BIOS version from HP. Suspend to RAM kind of works, but is not enabled by default. You should edit /etc/pm/config to force use of s2ram (change line S2RAM_OPTS="" to S2RAM_OPTS="-f"). On resume display backlight is off, but can be turned on using Fn+Brightness button. Ethernet works after resume, power management (fan) works as well. I did not check whether wireless survives resume. Initially I had some problems with audio (only headphones were working), after playing with KMixer speakers are working as well.

The solution is to use kernel from http://repos.opensuse.org/Kernel:/SL102_BRANCH/openSUSE_10.2/ or latest online-update-kernel. see https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=179702 This bug is fixed in the latest kernel, and might get into openSUSE 10.3. It is also important to use the latest BIOS version from HP. to get wlan, fglrx or any other kmp-drivers to work again after kernel-update, just get source-rpm of required kmp-package and rebuild rpm or reinstall driver (in case of fglrx). For 3D graphics problem fixes look at: http://en.opensuse.org/ATI_Driver http://en.opensuse.org/Howto/ATI_Driver https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=222993 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=233112 http://forum.beryl-project.org/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=13&start=210
